Hey hey! I’m Lisa Lam and I’m a rising senior attending Cheltenham High School in Pennsylvania! My spirit animal is a koala because sleeping is definitely a hobby! I love supporting all fields of STEAM :)
I started getting involved in STEM when I was in fifth grade.
I had the amazing opportunity to a STEM camp at Temple University and have been attending every year since then.
I have two amazing siblings, Faith and Nicholas, both younger than me so I'm the leader of the pack.
I am a proud Vietnamese girl, born and raised by immigrant parents. I enjoy all aspects of my culture: the food, the dancing, the films, etc.
In my free time, I love playing Minecraft with my friends and listening to music. My family also loves to travel and we've visited almost 50% of the United States!
I'm proud to say I'm a cybersecurity enthusiast. I started taking interest in cybersecurity after participating in Carniege Mellon University's picoCTF 2019. Being the only girl in my team made me feel awkward at times but solving or in better terms, hacking the challenges empowered me. It was cool to see how I could teach myself such an expansive topic and actually do pretty well in competition. Since then, I've competed in Girls Go Cyberstart, National Cyber League, Teneesee's Tech CEROC SoarCTF and hopefully more in the foreseeable future. With my heavy involvement in cybersecurity and computer science, I was honored to win and be a NCWIT affiliate winner and making it also to nationals for Girls Go Cyberstart. My team of four girls, all being beginners in cybersecurity were able to place 4th in the state for GGCyberstart.
My love for computer science started from learning Python at Temple University's camps. However, I didn't fully immerse myself in the subject until 10th grade. After attending my first hackathon in 9th grade, where I learned HTML, CSS, and Javascript, I requested to take a Java class the following year. Since then, I've attended multiple hackathons and even led one! At my school, I was president of my Computer Science Honor Society and during quarantine, we offered a virtual hackathon for all high school students in our area. Within the society, I also have volunteered at my local library multiple times to teach young kids about robots and computer science, including MicroBits! This summer, I've had the honor to attend Kode with Klossy, Girls Who Code, and Tennesee's Tech CEROC Cyber Discovery camps to expand my love for computer science. I hope to one day attended CMU for majoring in computer science!
